About Us History Wood Firing La Borne

La Borne and the surrounding area has long been a centre for the production of stoneware pottery. The earliest mention
is in a document dated 1260. The surrounding forests of Henrichemont and the local clays provide the raw materials
for wood fired pottery production.

La Borne has been a major centre for traditional stoneware since the 17th century, supplying pots for domestic use.
After WWII artists from Paris came to La Borne to live a quiet creative life. Today La Borne thrives as an important
art center with 25 working potteries, 15 kilns (3 traditional), with 50 artists belonging to the association of Potters
La Borne. Claire was able to live, work, and be part of this village for 12 years. Subsequently owning her own
shop, studio, and wood kiln.
